People are F’in idiots. There’s this California State Senator – named Leland Yee - who is all ass-hurt about Sarah Palin speaking at a state university where her speech is going to make the state school system a bunch of money. And he wants full disclosure of what she’s getting paid. Now there are these idiot dumpster-diving students who found some paperwork about Palin’s accommodations. From this story:
- “Round-trip, first class commercial air travel for two between Anchorage, Alaska and event city” – Presumably for Palin’s guests, “full, unrestricted round-trip coach airfare for two between event city and lower 48 US States.” – If the university chooses to use a private jet, “the Speaker, their traveling party and the plane crew will be the only passengers.” – Ground transportation in both the originating city and the event city “will be by SUV(s) from a professionally licensed and insured car service.” – “security arrangements as deemed necessary by [Washington Speakers Bureau] and the Speaker.” – Accommodations are to include “a one-bedroom suite and two single rooms in a deluxe hotel” as well as a “laptop computer and printer (fully stocked with paper) and high speed internet” and “all meals and incidentals.” – “For Q&A, the questions are to be collected from the audience in advance, pre-screened and a designated representative shall ask questions directly of the Speaker.” – The contract also includes other stipulations regarding autographs, photographs, press releases, advertising, recording, lighting, bottled water and “bendable straws.”
Who gives a shit; this is nothing out of the ordinary. I’ve worked around big speaking events and people have contracts with requirements built-in that include how they travel, what needs to be in the dressing room, etc. And these dumb-ass students think they found something important.
“We just sat there and looked at it. We’re looking it over, just couldn’t believe we found the one thing that this whole issue is about. We also thought, ‘Why wouldn’t they have shredded this, when there’s all these other bags of shredded documentation?’” student Alicia Lewis said.
There’s nothing secretive about this at all. Fucking idiots. Just because it’s Sarah Palin doesn’t make it controversial. Either go to the speech or don’t, whatever, this isn’t even a story. But in the interest of full disclosure the only reason I’m writing about it is because it involves Sarah Palin. She’s like website gold.
