and now, a protest…

In case you need to catch up about the goings on in Iran, like I do… I spent the weekend in the wilderness with a large group of people, completely cut off from all forms of communication. Well, actually, there was a lot of face-to-face, um, ah… ‘conversations?’ I believe that’s what they are called. Oh yeah, that’s right, we went old school. It was tough at first. For the first few hours we just walked around the campsite, periodically shouting what we were doing in under 140 characters.
I’m still sitting in the campsite! We’re all staring at each other! I’m getting up to get another beer!
Some people would shout out comments – That’s so you! Other people would just give a thumbs up and say – I like this. But then the strangest things started to happen; people turned to those next to them and just gave those people their status updates, and then we started grouping up, and instead of statuses and thumbs up, we all started talking. It was really weird. I can only blame the beer.
Anyway, because of the lack of normal communication, I fell a little behind on the Iran election dealy. This is a decent breakdown of why people are upset. First; 85% voter turn out. Hmm… Second; almost 40 million hand written ballots counted in a few hours. I don’t know, maybe they had a quarter-million people counting the votes. Third; landslide victory. A landslide victory usually isn’t followed by riotous protests…
Here’s a good story to read about the protests. Note in the story that President Obama is ‘deeply troubled’ troubled by the violence. Oh really? I guess the White House has to release a statement about everything, but the only thing more predictable than a rigged election in Iran is that our president will be troubled. Why is it even reported? That’s not news. It would be news if he/she (presidents in general) aren’t troubled.
This just in… Riots break out in Iran in protest over election… when asked about the situation, the president shrugged, shook his head and giggled.
